Look Both Ways: A movie review
I’ve never been one to follow the bandwagon. Most of the time, the book or movie everyone’s raving about turns out to be either overrated or just plain bland. I don’t know—maybe I’m just not into things that social media hypes up. People tend to be overdramatic these days. And yes, take it from an overdramatic person herself.
I finally finished Look Both Ways last night and it touched the very core of my heart. You’ll still get to where you’re meant to be. No matter how long it takes. No matter how hard it gets. You’ll get there. Trust me.
In the movie, we follow Natalie Bennet, an aspiring animator, illustrator, or whatever you may call it. Had this 5-year plan of her life after graduation.
The movie shows us two different perspectives and two different lives of the protagonist.
Scenario 1:
Natalie got pregnant by her best friend, Gabe, a drummer. They decide to keep the baby, Rosie, and embrace the biggest detour of their lives: becoming full-time parents. Natalie gives up her LA dreams. Gabe steps back from music to help raise their daughter.
Scenario 2:
Natalie flies to LA with her best friend, Cara. She lands a job at an animation company, meets a man who changes her life, and spends years trying to prove herself. Eventually, she’s fired, but that moment pushes her to find her voice and create something truly hers.
Both paths are messy. Both are beautiful. And both lead her to where she’s meant to be.
Which tells us that everything will into place. That’s the point. We’ll meet the one. We’ll land the dream job. We’ll graduate, save that first million, maybe build a family.
We just need to be patient. And as cliché it may sound, we need to trust the perfect timing and the process into getting there.
You're okay. We're okay.
